Where can you find a good and trustworthy random password generator?

Look no further than to your reliable and hardworking Sticky Password.

With Sticky Password you can manage hundreds of unique, secure passwords without much effort.

Better yet, you can use it to generate passwords!

After it generates a strong password, Sticky Password will save it in its secure database. If you have the cloud sync enabled, Sticky Password will sync the newly generated password with all your devices (computers, tablets and smartphones).

You can also sync them manually if you're using the local (WiFi) sync option.

But what about the existing passwords that you already have? The ones you imported from a web browser after you installed Sticky Password, or added manually yourself without using a random password generator? How strong are those passwords?

Sticky Password has a security dashboard where you can identify and change weak, old or reused passwords.

Sticky Password Security DashboardDon't neglect your passwords

People get hacked all the time, and the three main reasons are because they are:

  • Using weak passwords
  • Never changing passwords
  • Using the same password for multiple websites

All three problems are easily addressed with Sticky Password:

  • It has an excellent random password generator
  • It makes it easy to change passwords
  • It remember all passwords so they can all be different

What should your strong, secure password look like? It should:

  1. Have many characters, at least 20
  2. Have upper case, lower case, numbers and special characters
  3. Be different for every website and online account
  4. Be changed from time to time, at least once per year

Sticky Password can generate a strong password for you when you are registering a new account on a website and need to come up with a new password.

You can also open Sticky Password "Password Generator" tool any time you need a strong password, for any reason, even when you are not registering a new web account.

Let's learn how to use Sticky's random password generator in these two scenarios.

Using the random password generator when creating a new web account

Sticky Password integrates with all major web browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Apple Safari.

No matter which web browser you use, with Sticky Password you always have all your passwords at your fingertips. This is much more convenient - and safer - then storing passwords in a web browser.

When Sticky Password detects username and password field on a website, it will log you in automatically, assuming it has the website's username and password in its database.

If you're creating a new account on a website, Sticky Password will ask you if you want it to generate a strong password for you.

Before you visit the website to create a new account, make sure Sticky Password is unlocked on your computer, tablet or smartphone.

When you click on the "Generate password" button, Sticky Password will use its random password generator to create a brand new unique and secure password. It will also store the new password in its database together with the username and the website's name and URL.

After generating a new strong password, Sticky Password will fill out the "Password" and "Confirm" fields with it.

Using random password generator advanced options

Every time you generate a new password, you can tell Sticky in more detail what the password should look like.

If, instead on the "Generate Password" button, you first click on the "Advanced options" link, Sticky Password allows you to modify the following options:

  • Password length (your password should be at least 20 characters long)
  • Upper case characters
  • Lower case characters
  • Numbers
  • Special characters

You should select all four different character sets.

You can also exclude  similar characters, those that look almost the same, depending on the particular computer or font you are using. Examples of similar-looking characters are zero (0), and capital o (O) and number one (1) and lower case L (l).

The more different character sets you use and the longer your password is, the stronger it is.

After you finish configuring advanced password generation options, click on the "Generate password" button to generate a random password.

Using the password generator any time you need a new strong password

You can open the Sticky password generator whenever you need to generate a strong password, not just when you're registering a new account on a website.

There are two easy ways to open the random password generator when you need it.

Method 1: Open the password generator in your browser while surfing the web

You can access the Sticky password generator from your web browser.

In this example I use Mozilla Firefox. Click on the "Sticky Password icon" on the upper right corner and then on "Password Generator".

Here you will see the familiar options like the password length and different character sets that can be included or excluded when generating a password.

Click on "Copy" when you're ready to generate and copy a strong password. Then paste it where you need to.

Important: Sticky Password only keeps the newly generated password in the operating system copy buffer (also known as clipboard) for 10 seconds.

This is for security reasons, because it is possible for malicious programs or malware to gain access to the operating system copy buffer (clipboard) and access your new password.

Unless you're a computer security expert, you can't be sure that your computer has no malware, spyware or other hacked programs running, or that the websites you visit have not been compromised.

Because Sticky Password cares about your password security, it has additional features protecting your passwords, like clearing the operating system copy buffer (clipboard) as soon as possible.

So paste the password within 10 seconds or you will need to generate another one (no big deal, just click on the "Copy" button again and Sticky will generate a new password).

The 10-second default clipboard password expiration and deletion practice can be changed in Sticky Password configuration settings but I recommend you leave it as is.

You rarely need to copy and paste passwords with Sticky Password, because it integrates with web browsers, so in most cases it generates and fills the website password fields automatically.

Method 2: Open the password generator on your computer at any time

You can open the Sticky password generator any time you need a strong password.

Click on the "Sticky Password icon" in the notification area located in the lower right corner of your monitor and select "Password generator".

Password generator history

When you create a new account on a website and Sticky Password generates a strong password for it, it will also save it in its database.

However, sometimes the password doesn't get saved, usually because some websites don't follow standard practices and Sticky Password can't detect the website password field correctly.

In that case, you can look up the newly generated password.

Click on the "Sticky Password icon" in the notification area located in the lower right corner of your monitor and select "Password generator".

Then click on the "Password history" tab.

Use the date and URL to locate the password you are looking for. If you just used the password generator on a website, it will be under that website's URL.

All passwords that Sticky Password generates are saved in the password history.

You can then click on the "eye icon" to view your password (not recommended and should not be needed), or use the "Place to clipboard" button to copy the password to the clipboard (computer copy buffer).

If the new account you just created on a website was not saved in Sticky Password for some reason, you can create an account for it in Sticky Password yourself.

Open Sticky Password, go to "Web Accounts" and then use the "Add Account" button.

Once you give the new account a name and type in the Link (URL) and Login information, go to the password history to get the password and save it in the newly created Web Account.
